Field of Power
Field of Power is an elaborate invitation that would be received in the mail to honored guests of the exhibition. The project explores how package design can excite and entice a viewer as they explore the package. The box mimics the shape and size of a jewelry box, creating a link to the historical nature of Kehinde Wiley's paintings.
The pattern and form contrast sharply with the contemporary colors and typography, just as Wiley juxtaposes his figures within historical contexts. The ticket upon opening the box rests on a bed of flowers, invoking the imagery of Wiley's figures draping over white beds in peril. He is also known for incorporating flowers into the background of his paintings. The ticket is made of plantable seed paper.
